Tokyo

Just a quick update from Japan — in many ways a brief hiatus from my usual musical activities, although I prefer to think of it as a season of recharging, gathering energy and life from my surroundings here — to say that all is beyond well. My family and I are loving our time exploring Tokyo’s neighborhoods, sites, food, and culture. I’m about four or five weeks into the semester at MGU and my classes, after some initial adjustments, have been smooth sailing.

This week we’ll embark on a short-ish vacation across the country, seeing Kyoto, Hiroshima, Miyajima, and Osaka over the span of a week. The weather has just recently turned towards fall (about a month and a half “behind” what we’re used to in Michigan), and even so the days remain fairly warm on the whole.

We’re approaching the midpoint of our stay in Japan, which brings mixed feelings — I still feel like there’s plenty of time left, on the one hand, but on the other (of course) it’s all going by too fast, with our list of things to do forever increasing beyond the capacity of the remaining days here.
